On Friday, October 18, 2024 Daniel gave a presentation for the Annual Education Day of the Boston and Connecticut chapters of the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety. Addressing an audience of security professionals responsible for the safety of a wide range of patients and healthcare providers, Daniel discussed his research on the intersection of terrorism and AI (Artificial Intelligence) with a specific focus on the ways in which bad actors can leverage this emerging technology to cause problems in hospitals, clinics, and other critical facilities in this sector. In addition to an overview of the ways in which terrorists can make use of this tech for pre-operational surveillance and mis/disinformation operations, he also highlighted the potential dangers in over-reliance on AI-enabled CCTV and access control systems, including the threat posed by AI Poisoning, which can render protective systems that rely on AI essentially useless.
